Books & Seeds is now a permanent BRAW category starting this year. Which were the criteria which determined the evaluation of the submitted works?
My criteria were adherence to the submitted topics and the ability to channel them in a charming and original way.

Famine, agriculture, biodiversity, environment sustainability. They all stand as crucial topics in many areas of our planet. Do you believe books for young people tackling these matters are worth investing in to increase awareness from an early age?
These are essential issues that children may become aware of and develop a specific sensibility about. Especially if helped by pictures and words that may capture their curiosity. In these matters, books have an enormous potential.

In your opinion what’s the must-have publication dealing with food and natural living?
I can’t help quoting a very well-known and very much appreciated book: “The man who planted trees” by Jean Giorno, published in Italy by Salani. A big classic which is able to convey the power of a symbolic gesture, respect and sensibility to nature. A poetic masterpiece that has been a challenge for a number of great illustrators. I would also mention “The Conductor” by Laëtitia Devernay, published by Terre di Mezzo. A wordless book with a lot of music and life in. A hymn to the inspiring force of nature.
