Preparations are in full swing for the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF), the only book fair in Asia Pacific fully dedicated to books and other contents for children co-organised by BolognaFiere/Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
2021 CCBF will take place on 19–21 November at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre. Over 450 exhibitors are expected to attend, and more than 30,000 professional visitors and readers.
An exhibition opportunity allowing overseas publishers to show their new titles at the fair even when they are not able to attend in person. Advanced technology also endows CCBF exhibitors with innovative services thanks to its online Matchmaking System. Besides the Book Showcase, CCBF offers a range of flexible exhibiting solutions such as the Literary Agents Centre, the Digital Hub, and exclusive lounges open to winners and shortlisted publishing houses of BCBF awards —Bologna Best Children’s Publishers (BOP) Lounge, Strega Prize Lounge and New Entry Lounge.
The CCBF international illustration contest is designed for young illustrators under 40 to showcase their talent. Its comprehensive programme includes an exhibition, an illustrated yearbook and a variety of promotional campaigns such as the opportunity to participate in various illustration-related activities taking place at the fair, and to be chosen to design the key visual of the next edition of CCBF.
The core of the CCBF programme will be Children Plus—Books & Seeds, a special book exhibition featuring international children’s titles that relate to nature, food, recycling, and sustainability. In addition to the book exhibition, the Children Plus - Books & Seeds programme will encompass seminars, discussions and workshops echoing the theme. Initiated at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair as part of Expo 2015, CCBF will offer a renovated look on this vital topic featuring new titles from all around the world and an extended selection of original Chinese and Asian books.
Reference space for illustrators at BCBF, the Corner is regularly hosted at CCBF with its extensive professional programme of masterclasses, special events and workshops held by international artists and publishing experts. The programme is curated by Mimaster illustrazione, a leading international educator on the illustration scene

2020 CCBF REPORT
BolognaFiere/ Bologna Children's Book Fair has opened in 2018 a new important chapter of its international activities becoming co-organizer of the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF), the only book fair in Asia Pacific fully dedicated to books and other contents for children. CCBF is the only event that can be assimilated to the Bologna Children's Book Fair in being focused exclusively on children's publishing and with a predominantly professional format.
After eight successful editions, CCBF has become a premium event for the global children’s publishing industry: it hosts one of the leading copyright exchange hubs for children’s books and content, contributing to the meeting and exchange between China, with its great heritage of literature and illustration, with the rest of the world.
CCBF is also a great opportunity to engage in the booming Chinese children's book market. China boasts one of the fastest growing book markets in the world. The country already publishes the largest number of children’s books, releasing over 40,000 new titles every year, and targeting 367 million children and young adults.
As well as the large exhibition area, CCBF offers a packed line-up of events and a wide range of activities aimed at enhancing the cultural backdrop of the fair: the Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition and Exhibition, the Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Award, one longest running literary prizes in China, the Authors Festival, which brings together renowned authors from China and overseas, the exclusive Shanghai Visiting International Publishers Programme (SHVIP)., and a compelling line-up of International Conferences.
The Bologna Children’s Book Fair adds its experience and client hub to this amazing event, sharing ideas, providing its consolidated network of relationships and enlarging the cultural programme with meetings, exhibitions and awards while combining copyright and cultural exchange with professional updating.
Great success for CCBF 2020 While physical book fairs in the western world have been absent from 2020’s schedules, the eighth edition of CCBF took place as scheduled on 13–15 November 2020. CCBF brought 19,000 visitors to its fairgrounds, while online events gathered more than 500,000 views all across the country. CCBF 2020 brought together 386 exhibitors (of which 99 international) from 21 countries and territories. Over 300 online and offline events took place concurrently with the exhibition in over 100 locations, including schools, bookstores, libraries and art museums.
