Now in their seventh edition, the 2027 BolognaRagazzi CrossMedia Awards – organised by BolognaFiere as part of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair – recognises the best crossmedia projects for children and young adults. In a publishing landscape that is increasingly oriented towards developing and harnessing the full potential of intellectual property, the award acknowledges the stories that have been able to expand onto various media, with a particular emphasis on the concept of the book as a key to access a narrative universe.
The Award is free to enter and is open to publishers, owners of IP (Intellectual Property), developers/producers, authors and others involved in bringing the project to fruition.
The awards are divided into three categories.
The International Jury will award one Prize for each of the three categories from among the works submitted. The Jury may also award Special Mentions.
1. Book-to-Media
The project must have been based on a book, novel, picture book, play or graphic novel intended for readers ranging from early readers to young adults. The adaptations and expansions onto other media must have been published or released for the first time between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026.
The development of the overall project across different media will be one of the criteria on which the Jury bases its assessment. The following categories of adaptation and expansion may be considered:
2. Transmedia Evolution
This category is dedicated to intellectual properties conceived from the outset as complex narrative ecosystems in which each medium offers new perspectives and contributes original and complementary content to the story. Projects must include at least one adaptation or expansion published or released for the first time between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026.
The following types of adaptation and expansion will be considered by the Jury when assessing the richness, coherence and structure of the narrative universe:
3. Digital Reading Experiences
Digital reading experiences for early readers and young adults must be made available through digital reading platforms, content libraries, applications or digital publishing series. They must have been first published, or include new content published, between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026.
Participation in the Award implies full acceptance of these Regulations.
Applicants may submit one or more entries.
Application Forms to enter the Competition, available online on the event website, must be completed and submitted no later than 1 February 2027.
Candidates may be requested to provide additional material to enable the Jury to carry out a more thorough assessment of the submitted works and to select the winners and Special Mentions.
Applicants are advised to read the online Application Form carefully and check all the materials required to complete their submission.
All works admitted to the Competition will be submitted to the final and irrevocable judgement of an International Jury composed of experts in children's literature, interactive and graphic design, new media, video games, cinema and television.
The Jury reserves the right, where deemed appropriate, to transfer an entry from one category to another.
Applicants, as the exclusive owners of the shortlisted titles or as subjects duly authorised by the exclusive owners, grant BolognaFiere the non-exclusive right to:
BolognaFiere declines any liability for errors or omissions.
The Book-to-Media Award will be presented to the applicant.
The Transmedia Evolution Award will be presented jointly to the applicant and the IP owner.
The Digital Reading Experiences Award will be presented jointly to the applicant and the publisher/owner of the platform, application or publishing series.
BolognaFiere reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel the Award or amend the dates of the Competition without any compensation being due to participants.
The Competition governed by these Regulations falls within the exemptions provided for under Article 6 of Italian Presidential Decree No. 430 of 26 October 2001.
Relations between Competition participants and BolognaFiere shall be governed by Italian law. Any dispute arising from these Regulations shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Italian judicial authorities, with the Court of Bologna having exclusive jurisdiction.
Participation in the Competition and the use of the Award and any acknowledgements are entirely free of charge and do not entail any obligation or commitment of any kind other than compliance with the conditions set out in these Regulations.
