Chiara Basile

Chiara Basile has a scientific background, with a PhD in mathematical physics and experience teaching children and teenagers  as educator in non-formal contexts. Founder and owner of the independent children’s bookshop Lèggere Leggére in Castel Maggiore, near Bologna, Italy, she has always strived to build a network of like-minded people and associations disseminating books and culture, even in the most unusual environments. Since 2019, she has been among the organizers of the Junior Poetry Festival, the first international poetry festival for young people in Italy.

Ana Garralon

Ana Garralón (Madrid, 1965) has been studying and working with children´s books since the late 1980: as primary school teacher, bookseller, critic, writer, anthologist, blogger and workshop instructor.

She has taught as invited professor at the Master's Degree in Children's Literature at the University of Barcelona (UAB), as well at the University of Zaragoza and at the Master's Degree on Illustration Iconi Album. Over the years, she has brought her workshops to many cities of Spain and Latin America. 

A well-known critic, she has written in several specialized magazines. In her blog she regularly analyses issues related to children's books, write reviews and teachers online course on topics like Nonfiction for children, Review writing, and Photography in Children’s Books, among others.

She received a scholarship from the International Youth Library (IJB) in Munich, where she did research that allowed her to publish her first book: Portable History of Children's Literature (2001 / reissue 2017). Since then, she has written books about Cervantes, published a selection of Latin American poetry for children, among others. Her latest book is Reading and knowing. Nonfiction books for children (2013).

In 2016 she received the National Award for Promotion of Reading, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Education and Sport

Izabella Kaluta

Author, editor and culture manager operating on the Polish and international book markets since 1998, Izabella Kaluta has curated the Polish collective stands of events in London, Frankfurt, Moscow, Beijing and Bologna. She is the author of "Man Zou. China for Inquisitive Children” (Magellan Award, 2019), published in Polish by the prestigious Dwie Siostry Publishers, translated into Spanish (GeoPlaneta), Korean (Pulbit), Ukrainian (Urbino) and Chinese (CITIC Press). Until recently (April 2021), she was the Vice President of the foundation set up by the Polish Nobel Prize Winner for literature, Olga Tokarczuk.

Yasmine Motawy

Yasmine Motawy teaches at the Department of Rhetoric and Composition at the American University in Cairo and is a scholar, critic, translator, editor, consultant, and writing mentor in the field of children's literature. Yasmine prioritizes making information about children’s literature accessible, and has produced journalism, organized events, and worked with the Egyptian Board on Books for Young People (2012-2018) and other NGOs towards this goal. She served on the 2016 and 2018 Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury, the 2017 Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature Jury, and on the Arabic books selection committee of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Book Club (2019-2020). In 2018, she was the recipient of the Mellon Foundation postdoctoral grant where she supported interdisciplinary Arabic language knowledge production. In 2021, her book on ideology in picturebooks written in Egypt in the last twenty years, Silence Between the Waves: Children’s Picturebooks and Contemporary Egyptian Society was published in Arabic by Al-Balsam Publishing House.

Caterina Ramonda

Caterina Ramonda was trained as a children’s librarian and has for years been involved in printed and digital books for children. She contributes to the specialist Journal Andersen and is on the Jury of the magazine’s Andersen Award. The author of many essays for Editrice Bibliografica on children’s libraries and reading promotion, her most recent publication in 2020 was Come proporre la poesia ai bambini e ai ragazzi in biblioteca (How to present poetry to children and young adults in the library). Caterina is also involved with multi-lingualism, collaborating with the Association Dulala – D’une langue à l’autre
