2024 BRAW COMICS JURY

Born in 1978 in Livorno, Virginia Tonfoni graduated from Pisa University in Foreign Languages and Literature in 2004 with a final dissertation comparing the novel Tristana by Benito Pérez Gáldos and Luís Buñuel’s 1971 film adaptation. In 2006, she obtained a Master’s from Barcelona University in “Cultura histórica y comunicación”. She then worked in the publishing and movie industry while in Barcelona, moving back to Italy in 2012 where she taught Spanish in high school and collaborated with Alias, the cultural supplement of the Italian daily Il Manifesto. Virginia organized the Teatrofficina Refugio’s Combat Comics festival, and collaborated with the Leggenda festival organized by the R. Fucini library in Empoli, as well as with the exhibition Leggermente curated by the Biblioteca Labronica F.Guerrazzi. She has been a member of the Boscarata Award jury of the Treviso Comic Book Festival since 2015, and in 2021 joined the jury of the Pozzale Luigi Russo Award. Since 2018 she has participated as an independent researcher in international conferences, presenting her work and publications on comics. Her first book entitled Violeta-Corazón maldito (Bao Publishing) was released in 2017.
