  • the Portfolio Review "Jackets Off" will be held on the Zoom platform; 4 Portfolio sessions will be open to a maximum of 15 participants each;
     
  • to register for the Portfolio review it is necessary to upload a portfolio in pdf format (max 5 MB) no later than 12.00 pm (Italy time zone) on Monday 14 June;

Event description

COVERS GO DIGITAL – Live Group Talk

Alice Beniero, Paul Buckley, Cecilia Flegenheimer, and Jon Gray talk about art direction and their graphic design experience in cover design, specifically the role that covers play in digital, on online bookstores, and on social platforms. What are the new design criteria for a cover to work both on a bookstore shelf and in smaller digital preview size? 

PORTFOLIO REVIEW

These portfolio review sessions are exclusively for illustrators and designers who work in cover design and non-children’s illustration.

  • The time shown is for the Italian time zone. If you’re in a different time zone, find out the time where you are at www.time.is
  • Connect to Zoom five minutes before the start (e.g., if your start time is 9:00 am, we expect you to log in at 8:55 am).
  • Each participant gets 6 minutes of video chat time
  • Screen sharing will be disabled. We recommend that you keep the work you submitted handy.
  • Once you’re on Zoom, you’ll be in the waiting room. The portfolio review is a private discussion with the reviewer; we ask you to wait your turn. The moderator will give you access as soon as everything is ready for you, following the booking order (maximum wait, 82 minutes)
  • The language used during the portfolio review is English

In 15-minute video interviews, Alice Beniero, Cecilia Flegenheimer, Jon Gray and Steve Heller talk about some particularly successful cover designs, and explain how to turn book cover design into an artistic tool of communication.

For an optimal experience, we suggest connecting to the ZOOM platform on a pc. But ZOOM also allows Smartphone access through its APPs or via browser connection, which does not require you to download anything. Your internet connection should be fast and stable.

Your access data are valid for the full day. If your connection fails, you can always re-enter the meeting using the Zoom you received.
