Biancoenero is an independent publishing house founded in Rome in 2005. It has always worked on the Alta Leggibilità (High Readability) project, which aims to bring books to all children, including those with reading difficulties. Today, Biancoenero curates fiction projects for its catalogue and collaborates with various Italian publishing houses on the publication of educational texts. Biancoenero owns its own typographic and high readibility font, now now extended to all Latin glyphs It was designed by graphic designer Umberto Mischi, with the advice of Alessandra Finzi (cognitive psychologist), Daniele Zanoni (expert in study methods for learning disorders) and Luciano Perondi (designer and typography teacher at ISIA in Urbino). Since 2011, when it was designed, the biancoenero font has been chosen and adopted by many organisations in a wide variety of contexts, demonstrating the growing interest in issues such as inclusion and accessibility over the years. We are particularly pleased that the font has been chosen by many educational publishers, who have used it in their texts (in some cases even asking for our collaboration in the editorial process), thus allowing the font to reach classrooms and become a concrete aid and support for study and learning.
