Magabala Books is Australia's leading First Nations publisher. Based in Rubibi (Broome) Western Australia, we are an internationally recognised and award-winning publishing house and cultural institution that has celebrated Australian First Nations storytelling for close to 40 years. In 2019 we were recognised as Australia’s fastest growing independent small publisher, in 2023 we received the Bologna Prize for Best Children’s Publisher of the Year (Oceania) and were winners of the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA) Small Publisher of the Year in 2020 and 2024. Magabala Books publishes up to 18 new titles annually by Australian First Nations creators across a range of genres. We also keep a substantial backlist in print, our earliest titles stand strong alongside new releases in the trade and are of significant cultural importance. Magabala Books is a cultural advocate and guardian, protecting the cultural and intellectual property rights of all our creators.
