PUBLISHING ACTIVITY

Celebrating fifty years in 2024, The O’Brien Press evolved out of a family-run printing and type house and has built a reputation for excellence as Ireland’s leading children’s and YA publisher. We are committed to putting great books into the hands of children and young people, from stunning picturebooks to early readers, acclaimed middle grade novels to YA and crossover fiction, and illustrated non-fiction for all ages. Our books have won numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious International Reading Association Award, the Waverton Good Read Children’s Award and the Peter Pan Prize. Since selling our first translation rights in the 1970s, more than eight hundred foreign editions (and counting!) of our titles have been published in forty languages worldwide. Our list features many of Ireland’s foremost writers and illustrators including Children’s Laureates Eoin Colfer and Siobhán Parkinson, Marita Conlon-McKenna, Judi Curtin, Chris Judge, Ruth Frances Long, Sarah Webb, Steve McCarthy, Sarah Bowie, Paddy Donnelly and Jamie Carroll.
