Valerio Vidali was born in Lodi in 1983: he is an Italian illustrator and picture book author.

His work has received numerous recognitions. His book The Forest (Enchanted Lion, 2018) was a New York Times Best Illustrated Book, as was his book Jemmy Button, in 2013. Valerio received the Grand Prix of Ilustrarte, International Biennal of Illustration of Lisbon, and the CJ Picture Book Award, as well as acknowledgements from the American Society of Illustrators and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. His book Hundert (Kein & Aber 2018) was nominated for the German Children’s Literature Award and has been translated into 17 languages. In 2020, he illustrated the first English edition of Telephone Tales by Gianni Rodari for Enchanted Lion, now also published by Einaudi Ragazzi in Italy as the celebratory edition for the 60th anniversary of Rodari's masterpiece.

Valerio currently lives and works in Porto, (Portugal) where he is learning traditional tile painting and furniture making.
