As part of our on-going commitment to promoting publishing excellence, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair is now focusing on the world of research by establishing a permanent award dedicated to the best dissertations in children’s literature which is presented in partnership with the Research Centre on Children's Literature of the Bologna University. The prize, currently awarded for postgraduate works from Italian Universities only, pays tribute to the Italian literary critic Carla Poesio, and her fundamental contribution to the world of children’s literature, including a unique role in the birth and development of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The first edition of the prize has already proved a great success, with 33 research papers submitted from Universities throughout Italy. The papers revealed the many different fields of investigation in children’s literature: from literature, iconography and art to historic and educational perspectives that also involve linguistic and  philological sections and include aspects of the publishing market too.

The winner is Ilaria Martino (University of Genoa) with the work “Il romanzo distopico alla Scuola Primaria: utopia o realtà?” (The Dystopian Novel in Primary School: Utopia or Reality?) whose publication from a specialized publisher will be supported by BolognaFiere. The expert committee was composed of professors of Pedagogy and Children’s Literature: Emma Beseghi (University of Bologna), Pino Boero (University of Genoa) and Lorenzo Cantatore (University of Roma Tre).
