Looking Forward BCBF2023

6-9 March 2023

Bologna: the heart of the book world where the taste for books is indulged

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair (BCBF) – the world’s leading event in the children’s publishing industry – celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023! These have been sixty years of growth and development that have seen many new projects abroad and the launch of new initiatives at the fair in Bologna. All this has been made possible thanks to the continuous dialogue and collaborative relationship that both the fair, and the city of Bologna, have fostered with international publishers.

After the great success of last year's experience, BCBF will again benefit from the support and collaboration of the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for 2023. Thanks to this support, the fair will be able to strengthen its international reach and promote new opportunities for the publishing industry,

BCBF 2023 will feature its impressive flagship initiatives: above all BolognaBookPlus (BBPlus), the brand extension dedicated to general publishing. After the success of its first in-person edition, BBPlus’ innovative spirit will bring a vital new element, to support publishers and rights trading across the world: the evolution of BCBF’s Agents Centre to a new Bologna Rights Centre, open to both children's and adult agents as well as to the rights professionals from the publishing houses exhibiting at the fair.

BCBF 2023 will also welcome a larger Comics Corner, with comics’ publishers from across the globe, and a further in-depth look at African publishing with a new edition of the Spotlight on Africa.
In addition to all this, the fair will present a rich programme of initiatives – from awards to exhibitions, and from meetings to special areas devoted to the many different aspects of the publishing industry.

THE GREAT SUPPORT OF ITA AND MAECI
From the Grand Tour to Bologna: a truly new adventure

Thanks to the support and collaboration of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairsand International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the Bologna Book Fair will be able, for the second year, to strengthen its international reach and foster opportunities for the publishing industry. Travelling to four international trade events, offering opportunities to re-establish in-person relationships with the professional community and bringing a rich programme of exhibitions and activities with international experts and artists.

ITA and MAECI supported initiatives will also be crucial for the development of BCBF 2023. These include the organisation of an enhanced Invitation Programme involving 150 high-profile professionals from many countries, and major  business areas: Spotlight on Africa, World Lounge, BolognaBookPlus, Comics Corner and the Italian Illustration Lounge at the Illustrators Survival Corner. These initiatives are complemented by an intense matchmaking programme with Italian publishers and illustrators, organised in cooperation with AIE-Italian Publishers Association.
