WORLD DIRECTORY OF CHILDREN'S BOOK TRANSLATORS

in collaboration with Index Translationum – UNESCO
Bringing publishers and children’s book translators together
The World Directory of Children’s Book Translators was launched in 2008 under the aegis of the UNESCO Index Translationum. Developed by the Translators’ Centre, this database aims to enhance linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalised world that has seen an exceptional growth in the circulation of foreign literature.
The World Directory database includes translators of children’s literature from around the world. It is a virtual place where specialist translators and publishers come together.
With 55 languages currently represented, the database offers a wealth of linguistic combinations, including minority as well as widely spoken languages.
How to consult the Directory
Available to anyone looking for translators, the World Directory is accessed via a user-friendly login:
The Directory has several search keywords: translator name; country of residence; literary genre; source language; target language; mother tongue.
Exhibitor publishers of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair can consult the Directory directly through their access code.
How to register
You may register if you have translated and had published at least two books for children unless yours is a minority or seldom-translated language.
Registering or updating your entry entails simply filling in a questionnaire.
