Jury Illustrators Exhibitors

Every year influential personalities of the publishing, art, design and children’s illustration world, directors of prestigious art schools and of the most important museums in the world are invited to become members of the Jury that selects the works to be featured in the Illustrators Exhibition.
The 2009 Jury is composed by:

Eduardo Filipe (Portogallo)
Eduardo Filipe was born in Barreiro, Portugal in 1963. He teaches Thermodynamics and Chemical Engineering at Lisbon Technical University.
His interest in children’s book illustration began almost 20 years ago, when together with Ju Godinho he started a private collection of originals. In 2003 they conceived and began organizing ILUSTRARTE, an international biennial competition for children’s book illustrators. They also curate a regular program of illustration exhibitions that has produced over 30 exhibitions of the world’s best illustrators.
Beatrice Masini (Italia)
Beatrice Masini was born in Milan, where she currently lives and works. She has two children.
She worked as a journalist (Il Giornale, then La Voce) before dedicating herself to children’s books as an author, translator and editor. She is Rizzoli’s and Fabbri Editori’s children’s book editor.
She has published some forty titles as a writer, from albums for children to novels for young adults. Her works have been translated into sixteen languages.
Won-Bok Rhie (Corea)
WON BOK RHIE was born in 1946 in Taejun, Korea.
Following his studies at the Seoul National University in Korea, he attended the University of Münster, Germany, where he studied design and visual communication and, from 1981 to 1984, history of art.
Returning to Korea, he became Professor of the Department of Art and Visual Communication of the Duksung Women’s University of Seoul where he currently works.
From 1999 to 2001, his teaching career took him to the USA as visiting professor at the University of California, Irvine.
His many years of experience as an illustrator and his intense editorial activity have earned him numerous prizes and participation in exhibitions all over the world.
John A. Rowe (Gran Bretagna)
JOHN A ROWE was born in 1949 in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom.
After his studies at the Richmond College of Art in London, he also attended Twickenham College of Technology and Epsom School of Art, Surrey.
In 1974 he moved to Austria where he studied art at the Hochschule für Angewandtekunst in Vienna. He also began working as a theatre set painter, a screen printer, and in historical monument preservation. He also exhibited his artwork frequently.
In 1990 he began to write and illustrate children’s books, which he continues to do to the present day. He lives both in England and in Australia.
