The Grand Tour’s programme has on display special exhibitions celebrating top-quality writing, illustration and design.

Italian Excellence

2020 marked one hundred years since the birth of Gianni Rodari, one of the most innovative and influential writers of the twentieth century, and Italy’s first author to win the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award, in 1970. This exhibition reflects a timeline of Italian illustration, exhibiting works by 21 illustrators who have illustrated Rodari’s books over the years. Many shining examples of illustration and design are showcased in this exhibition, including Bruno Munari and Emanuele Luzzati, as well as many great contemporary artists.
Enjoy the books featuring the illustrations on display, plus a special selection of Rodari’s international editions, including Arabic titles.

Contemporary book covers design: a selection

The book cover offers the reader the first impression for any title, hinting at the treasures that lie beneath. It must capture its spirit, identifying and positioning the book in a style or genre. The “Jackets Off” exhibition looks at the creative journey from start to finish, with the cover as its heart. The showcase is curated by five editorial design leaders who proposed the work of excellent designers. On display here is a selection from the exhibition, produced by Chialab design studio. The full offer is available online on the BCBF Galleries, the virtual art museum of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
